The current project shown on the work bench is the resurrection of a TCS 12 transmitter and receiver. I fashioned a power supply on a dynamotor chasis, that I got from Robert Downs WA5CAB. I replaced the dynamotors with transfomers and bridges. The original specs for the transmitter called for 400 volts on the plate, 225 on the screens, and of course 12v filaments. I increased the plate to 650v with no ill effects. The filter caps are rated at 600 volts ( mil spec). That change increased the cw signal to about 65 watts. Only one final was used originally, this was accomplished by turning off the filament to one of the 1625's in the final. I jumpered the switch to turn on the filament in both modes.(That was the only mod done to the transmitter and can be remove easily). Next, I tried various microphones with builtin amplifiers, but none were adequate. In essence of time I had an idea to use a old tube 5 watt bogen pa amp as a speech amp. It worked like a charm. I decided to use it as the control head for both units.
